This guide will show you how to start the Scavenging Hunt quest for the Grandmaster Ursine Gear from the Bear School witcher set in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt next-gen update, where to find and obtain all the diagrams and the requirements to craft the armor and weapons!

What is Grandmaster Ursine Gear and who is it for

The Grandmaster Ursine witcher set is for level 40 and is an upgrade to the Mastercrafted Ursine witcher gear (level 34).

It’s a heavy armor set boosting Attack Power, Crit Hit Chance, and Adrenaline Points Gain. It also provides great resistance to damage from monsters, slashing damage, elemental damage and more.

Grandmaster is the highest tier of witcher gear in the game. At this tier, you get Set Bonuses. The more pieces of the same set you have equipped, the more bonuses you receive. More on that later in the guide.

This set is one of my personal favorites and it works great in almost any sword-heavy build. It looks stylish and unique, although, not quite the Geralt-style.

How to start the Scavenger Hunt quest

To receive the quest and to be able to get the gear at all, you need to unlock and access Toussaint. This is the region added to The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt with its second expansion Blood and Wine. If you don’t own the expansion, you can’t get the quest and the gear.

When you get to Toussaint, find the workshop of Lazare Lafargue. It’s located north of the Mettina Gate signpost.

This is the only Grandmaster craftsman in the game. He is an Armorer and Blacksmith “2 in 1” . Talk to him and ask him about the Bear gear diagrams hidden somewhere in Toussaint. This will grant you the Scavenger Hunt quest for the six diagrams of the Grandmaster Ursine set.

You can start and complete this quest at a lower level. The opponents you will have to fight are nothing extraordinary. You will need to be level 40 to wear the gear, though.

The Bear School witcher gear is sturdy and very Skellige-like and stylish set. It is perfectly suitable for the cold weather conditions the islanders have to endure.

The Grandmaster tier adds fur around Geralt’s neck. He is now also wearing two satchels. The lower segment of the robe has a different, darker brown texture with rombs stitching design.

The color effect on the swords is a result of the inserted runes. Yours may vary. If you have no runes in the available slots, the swords are all silver color without the engravings.

You can dye the armor pieces in different colors. There is amerchant who sells dyesat the shores of Beauclair in Toussaint.

Where to find the Diagrams

The six diagrams (four for armor pieces and two for the silver and steel swords) are all located in Toussaint. In two underground locations not far from each other.

If you are following the quest (reminder: you can just go to the location without having the quest started), your first objective will be to find the place where the witcher completed his contract.

The location you have to visit is a damaged and leaning to its side house in the northern part of Flovive, Toussaint. On the north side of the house, there is a rubble you can push away with Aard to reveal the entrance to the underground cellar.

Shortly after you enter, look to your right. In a small pocket tunnel there are two chests. The one on the left contains Grandmaster Ursine silver sword, armor and gauntlet diagrams as well as a note – Tufo’s journal.

There is a contract you can pick up from a nearby message board. It’s about the Tufo Monster. The owner of the vineyard where you find the first three diagrams will ask you to help investigate strange noises and rumbles underground. This contract follows you to the next location you have to visit to get the rest of the Grandmaster Ursine gear diagrams.

The Grandmaster Ursine steel sword, boots and trousers diagrams are all located in a cave northwest of the vineyard and Flovive.

There are two caves next to each other. You have to enter through the north entrance, the one that is right next to the water.

There is a rather large system of tunnels underground. As soon as you drop down, make a right, jump down to where the waterfall drops and creates a small water pool.

Walk facing south. You will come to a Giant Centipede level 40, which you will have to defeat. Use Insectoid Oil and Yrden against it.

There are Bear school emblems on the walls to lead you. You are basically always moving south and southeast through the cave.

Near the end of the cave, you will fight one more Giant Centipede. Right where this happens, you will also find a skeleton. These are the remains of the witcher, who, obviously, failed to complete his contract. Examine the bones and loot the three diagrams for the Grandmaster Ursine set. You now have all six. Go back to Toussaint to craft them.

How to Craft the Armor and Swords

After you have obtained all of the diagrams, bring them back to Lazare Lafargue. Below you can see the crafting requirements for each item and further down I have helpful information on where to find and how to get the most rarest ingredients.

This is the highest tier of gear in the game. As a result of this, it is very expensive to craft and demands the rarest of materials.

Infused Slyzard Hide
Can be purchased from the Shopkeeper Lafargue. You can also craft it from Cured Draconid Leather and Infused Crystal. Both also craftable items.

Enriched Dimeritium Plate
Can be purchased from the Shopkeeper Lafargue. Can also be crafted from Enriched Dimeritium Ingot.

Enriched Dimeritium Ingot
Can be purchased from the Shopkeeper Lafargue. Can also be crafted from Enriched Dimeritium Ore, which can be crafted or purchased.

Before you resort to purchasing an expensive crafting material, make sure you don’t have a way to craft it. All of the above mentioned ingredients can be crafted.

The ingredients for those items are fairly cheap and easy to find and loot. Things like Dimeritium Ore and Orichalcum Ore are available for loot. Explore Toussaint and do some of the question-marked optional activities on your map to earn some coins and loot some crafting materials.

The rest of the items you can get by purchasing from alchemists, merchants, or armorers and blacksmiths. You can also get them by dismantling items at an armorer or blacksmith.

There is no doubt that this is an expensive witcher set. Not only the crafting ingredients are rare and expensive to obtain, but the crafting tax at the craftsman is steep as well.

Gear Stats and Set Bonus

The Grandmaster tier of witcher sets all have unique set bonuses. The more items of the same set you wear, the more bonuses you receive. Below you can read the set bonuses for equipping 3 and 6 of the Grandmaster Ursine items.

Here are the stats of each individual gear piece. The plus and minus numbers at the end show the differences between the Mastercrafted and Grandmaster tier. The minuses are the result of runes and oils.

How to get the Legendary Version of the Grandmaster Ursine Set

The Legendary Bear School witcher gear set is available in New Game Plus (NG+) in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. The Scavenger Hunt Quest and all diagrams are located in the exact same places as in the normal game.
