This guide will show you how to start the Scavenger Hunt quest for the Mastercrafted Ursine Gear from the Bear School witcher set in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt next-gen update, where to find and obtain all the diagrams and the requirements to craft the armor and weapons!

What is Mastercrafted Ursine Gear and who is it for

The Mastercrafted Ursine witcher set is a Tier 4 Witcher Gear. It requires level 34 and is an upgrade to the Superior Ursine witcher gear (level 30). Before that, you first need to craft the Basic Ursine witcher gear (level 20) and Enhanced Ursine witcher gear (level 25).

It’s a heavy armor set boosting Attack Power, Crit Hit Chance, and Adrenaline Points Gain. It also provides great resistance to damage from monsters, slashing damage, elemental damage and more.

This set is one of my personal favorites and it works great in almost any sword-heavy build. It looks stylish and unique, although, not quite the Geralt-style.

How to start the Scavenger Hunt quest

To start the Scavenger Hunt quest for the Superior Ursine gear, you can purchase the map fragment from the armorer in Kaer Trolde. The name of the item in the shop is “Ibrahim Savi’s fourth map” and the name of the quest is “Scavenger Hunt: Bear School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 4”.

The following quests can also be started if you purchase the rest of the map diagrams this crafter is selling, but if you are up to the Superior tier, you probably have already purchased these map fragments:

Picking up the map fragments and starting the Scavenger Hunt Quests is optional. You can go to the places I will describe in detail in the next section of the guide and pick up the diagrams yourself. Obtaining all diagrams will complete these two quests for you anyway.

The Mastercrafted Ursine gear can be used at level 34. You can pick up the diagrams at a lower level if you prefer. There’s little challenge in terms of combat.

The whole adventure of obtaining the diagrams and crafting the armor and swords should take you around 15 minutes. It may be longer if you are missing crafting ingredients.

Visual Overview of the Set

The Bear School witcher gear is sturdy and very Skellige-like and stylish set. It is perfectly suitable for the cold weather conditions the islanders have to endure.The Mastercrafted and later the Grandmaster tiers turn this set into the most beautiful piece of armor (in my personal very biased opinion!).

The fourth tier of the set adds more plates and metal to Geralt’s shoulders and arms. It also changes the appearance of the lower part of the armor, which is now chain mail, bringing back some of the typical early-Ursine tiers’ green color.

Where to find the Diagrams

There are six diagrams of the Mastercrafted Griffin School Gear. They’re all located in Velen. The order in which you get the diagrams doesn’t matter. Finding all six will auto-complete the Scavenger Hunt quest related to them.

Mastercrafted Ursine Armor, Gauntlets, Trousers, and Boots diagrams location

The diagrams for the entire Mastercrafted Ursine armor set – Armor, Gauntlets, Trousers, and Boots – are all in a single chest in southern Velen.

The chest is at the Destroyed Bastion in southeastern Velen. This is southwest of the Crossroads signpost.

As soon as you arrive, you will have a level 19 Cyclops to defeat. This giant is weak against Ogroid Oil and Axii. You should also keep a Quen up as much as possible.

In Velen, northwest of Blackbough (the crafter here sells a few maps leading to other witcher gear sets), behind the Pellar’s hut, there is a cave. This is the same cave where you fought a bear while taking care of the Pellar’s goat Princess.

Walk to the far end of the cave, behind a rock formation and some wooden scraps, you will find a solid chest. Inside are the four diagrams of the entire Mastercrafted Ursine armor set.

The Silver Sword is in a chest on a small island northwest of Road to Bald Mountain and northeast of Olena’s Grove, in southern Velen.

There’s a Drowner Nest on the edge of the island and a few roaming low level drowners. These nests often yield useful resources for crafting oils, decoctions, potions, bombs and other things. Drowners and Monster Nests are good places to level up your Aerondight silver sword as well.

The chest containing the diagram is at the top of the small island, next to the standing stone.

How to Craft the Armor and Weapons

This is the fourth Tier of the Bear School Gear, you need a few rare and/or special things to craft it.

Where to find an Armorer and Blacksmith

Mastercrafted sets can only be crafted by a Master Armorer and Master Blacksmith. Complete the secondary quests to unlock theMaster Armorer Yoanaat Crow’s Perch andMaster Blacksmith Hattoriin Novigrad. Linked above are the walkthrough guides on how to unlock both of them.

Crafting Materials Requirements

The Mastercrafted Ursine is a very high-level gear set. This means that to craft all of the items, you will need crafting materials as well as the previous versions of each item – theSuperior Griffin gear.

Here is a list of some of the more interesting crafting materials you may not have on you and info on how to obtain them as easily and as cheaply:

Dark Steel Ingot
Can be purchased from Armorers and other merchants. Can also craft it from Steel Ingot and Dark Iron Ingot/Dark Iron Ore or Dismantle items to get it.

Cured Draconid Leather
Can be purchased from merchants. (it’s a bit expensive but easy to find). Can also dismantle Heavy Armor or Monster Carapace to get it.

Dimeritium Plate
Can be looted, crafted from Dimeritium Ingots, or purchased directly from a merchant (most often found in armorer and blacksmith shops).

Meteorite Silver Plate
Can be purchased from Armorers and other craftsmen and merchants. You can also craft it yourself from Meteorite Silver Ingots.

Dimeritium Ingot
Can be looted, purchased, or crafted from Dimeritium Ore and Glowing Glowing Ore Ingot. You can dismantle some gear pieces.

Rebis
Alchemy substance. To craft it, you need herbs and White Gull. Read the guide to Important Merchants for more info on how and where to get them.

Before you resort to purchasing an expensive crafting material, make sure you don’t have a way to craft it. The Dimeritium Plate, for example, is quite expensive even at this late stage of the game. It can be crafted from a number of ingredients, many of which you will likely have on you or can purchase cheaply enough. And always check what you can dismantle and what it dismantles into.

The rest of the items you can get by purchasing from alchemists, merchants or armorers, and blacksmiths. You can also get them by dismantling items at an armorer or blacksmith.

Mastercrafted Griffin Gear Set Stats

The Mastercrafted Edition of the Ursine witcher gear is an improvement in any aspect compared to the previous tier. You get additional rune slots as well.

The + numbers in the images below are actual differences between the Superior and Mastercrafted versions of the set.

How to get the Legendary Version of the Mastercrafted Ursine Set

The Legendary Mastercrafted Bear School witcher gear set is available in New Game Plus (NG+) in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. The Scavenging Quest and all diagrams are located in the exact same places as in the normal game.
