If you’re looking for a festive, tasty, and easy holiday co*cktail, look no further. Well actually you may want to check out our Easy Mulled Wine recipe too if you’re wanting something warm and cozy.

On Monday a couple of my mummy friends and their kiddies came over for a festive afternoon play date. Our 4 year-olds cut out gingerbread men and stars, and covered them with gold and hot pink sprinkles. They excitedly played outside while their cookies baked, and then sat down to watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the original version) while they munched their cookies.

Meanwhile, the mummies were having just as much fun as the kids. This lovely mummy brought crackers with Stilton cheese and fig jam. Let me tell you… that, my friends, is a winner. I made a raspberry and asparagus snack which will be posted later.

For an extra festive touch I made a pitcher of sparkling cranberry sangria. It was super quick to throw together, delicious, and very Christmas-y.

Your photography is just magical. I love the photo from above especially. What a fun thing to have the mummies over for.

I just read the macaron post – sorry but French is always popular despite what they say is “in or out” and I think macarons are here to stay, kind of like chocolate! Yours look wonderful. I have to admit I haven't given them a try yet – making them, not eating them.

Is sparkling cranberry juice different than regular cranberry juice?

  37. Marina {Yummy Mummy) November 5, 2012 @ 12:12 am Reply

Yes, it's fizzy 🙂 Enjoy! Regular would be fine too, it just wont have the frizz.

  38. m.dufault December 12, 2012 @ 7:56 pm Reply

Would substituting red wine for the white wine make a big difference in the taste? I have a couple of bottles of red wine I'd like to use up!

  39. Marina D December 12, 2012 @ 8:56 pm Reply

Hi, I love red wine sangrias, and recently had one with lots of chopped apples in it and it was delicious. I'm not 100% sure about the flavor of the cranberry with the red wine, but I THINK it would be good!

  40. Kara December 21, 2012 @ 5:07 pm Reply

    Hi
Recently stumbled upon your blog and LOVE it! A couple of questions about this drink…1. how do you thread the cranberries onto the rosemary sprig as garnish. 2. What type of white wine works in this recipe? Brand or type would be great. Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay? THANKS! Happy Holidays!

  41. Marina D December 21, 2012 @ 5:50 pm Reply

Hi Kara! Thanks so much the compliment.

To thread the cranberries, just use your fingers to pull off the leaves from the bottom half of the rosemary. Make sure you are using a strong sprig, not a little wimpy one 😉 Then you should easily be able to poke the bottom of the sprig through the cranberries. If not, you could always poke holes with a skewer or toothpick first.

wine… I like to use a drier white since the juice sweetens it up. Any Pinot Grigio, sauvignon blanc, or dry chard will be fine.

    Cheers!

Easy Sparkling Cranberry Sangria - Holiday co*cktail Recipe (2024)

FAQs

What does sparkling sangria taste like? ›

Go big or go home! This bubbly white sangria tastes like an upscale, fancy mimosa. You've got your orange juice and champagne, but also a little sweet wine and other juicy fruits to soak it all up.

Does sparkling sangria have alcohol? ›

Make the celebration special for everyone with this non-alcoholic sparkling mocktail. Just the right amount of bubbly fizz and a shimmering fresh finish. A refreshing sangria taste that combines notes of grape and citrus.

How long does sparkling sangria last? ›

Sangria will last for about three to five days in the refrigerator if stored in an airtight container. It will only last for a day or two if stored in the pitcher covered with storage wrap, so we recommend moving it to an airtight container if you don't plan on drinking it all within two days.

Is sangria stronger than wine? ›

If you're new to the sangria scene, you might wonder, "Is sangria stronger than wine?" Not necessarily. While sangria contains wine and often brandy, the addition of fruit and optional soda or sparkling wine dilutes the alcohol, making it a relatively mild, fruity beverage.

Does sangria count as a co*cktail? ›

It feels fancy and instantly festive, but sangria is also one of the easiest big-batch co*cktails you can make. As the party host, it's a no-brainer.

How much alcohol is usually in sangria? ›

EU law says bottles from Spain are limited by law to less than 12% alcohol by volume (ABV). Bottles produced in the U.S. usually have between 5% and 15%. Sangria made with red wine is usually stronger than white wine punches.

Is sparkling wine still alcoholic? ›

In short: sparkling wine is grape juice with alcohol and bubbles. It's made from fermented grape juice; Emma Rice, the winemaker for Hattingley Valley Wines in England says that sparkling wine encompasses all bubbly wine that isn't classified as Champagne or Prosecco.

What is the best base wine for sangria? ›

The best wine for sangria is Garnacha (also called Grenache) or Pinot Noir. Garnacha comes from Spain, so it's my top pick for authentic Spanish sangria! Choose an inexpensive wine (under $20) that you would enjoy on its own. Why Garnacha and Pinot Noir?

What is the best wine for sangria mix? ›

A few of our favorites include Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, but it's all dependent on personal preference. Just remember that you will be adding lots of fruity elements and a nice dose of sugar, so even the not-so-great bottles will get a bit of a glow-up once you're done.

Is it better to make sangria the night before? ›

Yes, sangria is often prepared in advance to allow the flavors to meld together. It is recommended to let the sangria sit in the refrigerator for at least a few hours or overnight to allow the fruits and other ingredients to infuse into the wine. This enhances the overall flavor and makes it more intensely fruity!

How would you describe the taste of sangria? ›

Sangria is as sweet as you make it. As a general rule, it's going to be fruity, so start with a dry red wine to keep that sugar content down. Pick fruits that lean more tart than sweet (like Granny Smith apples rather than white peaches), add more acidic juice like lemonade, or simply don't add sugar to your mixture.

Is sangria sweet or bitter? ›

While sangria is nothing more than a lightly sweetened wine-based punch typically consumed during the summer in Portugal and Spain, the garbage you're going to be served in the average Mexican-American restaurant is syrupy and spiced beyond belief in an attempt to cover up the rank of cheap red wine.

Is sangria supposed to be fizzy? ›

Sangria should have some fizz to it, so some kind of carbonated beverage is usually added to the concoction in order to give it some bubbles. Some popular carbonated beverages that are commonly added to sangria include soda water, seltzer water, or even flavored soda.

What flavor is sangria? ›

Traditionally sangria may be mixed with local fruits such as peaches, nectarines, berries, apples, pears, or global fruits such as pineapple or lime, and sweetened with sugar and orange juice. Spanish Rioja red wine is traditionally used.
