Why You Will love this Recipe

You can cook up some air fryer chicken breasts for the week and use the chicken for Air Fryer Chicken Quesadillas, Summer Cobb Salad, or DIY Weight Watchers Burrito Bowls.

Air fryers do not heat up the whole entire house like an oven does. I rarely turn on my oven anymore to make those 3 items above and the air fryer doesn't heat up your space.

Once you master basic chicken in the air fryer you can make air fryer chicken nuggets, parmesan chicken, or the Best Air Fryer Whole Chicken.

Chicken Breast - make sure the chicken breasts are even in size for proper cooking. Use an oven read thermometer for proper doneness

Seasoning - I have a few ideas on how you can season your chicken breast below but I like to use Dano's seasoning.

Olive oil for brushing on top of the chicken - or olive oil cooking spray

How to season chicken breasts?

There are many different ways you can flavor up this chicken. My recipe below calls for seasoning salt of choice and salt and pepper.

Some other seasonings that would be great for chicken breasts are lemon pepper seasoning, Taco Seasoning, Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel Seasoning, Trader Joe’s All Purpose Seasoning Salt, and Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute.

Seasoning Blend Spices: Onion powder, garlic powder, paprika

Chicken marinadeswill also cook in the air fryer. I'd suggest placing a sheet of parchment down before cooking so that none of the marinade drips. -Easy 3 Ingredient Chicken Marinade Recipe

Tips for Air Fryer Chicken Breast

One easy way to transform any chicken breast in the air fryer is to use a chicken brine before air frying the breasts. Find my recipe for Chicken Brine here!Chicken Brine Recipe

Use a meat thermometer to check and see if your chicken breast is properly done inside. Poke the chicken breast with a thermometer. It has to be at a temperature of 165 degrees for it to be done. Some air fryers might require longer cooking times for chicken.

Brushing your chicken with oil or using cooking spray is optional. I think spraying the chicken with oil helps with the skin drying out while cooking.

Chicken breasts arezero points on Weight Watchers if you don't add any type of oil to the chicken when cooking it in your air fryer. Prepare a few chicken breasts for the week to use on salads, pizza, casseroles, and quesadillas, or make DIY burrito bowls.

Chicken Breast Sizes and Cooking Times

Depending on the size of your chicken breast will vary for cooking times. Another good tip for making sure chicken cooks properly is to pound the breasts out so that they are all even in size. Make sure the basket isn't overcrowded with chicken either.

  • Small Breasts (5 to 7 ounces): 7 to 10 minutes
  • Medium Breasts (8 to 10 ounces): 10 to 12 minutes
  • Large Breasts (11 ounces or more): 12 to 16 minutes

Recipe FAQS

FAQs

How long does 1 chicken breast take in air fryer? ›

Roll each oiled chicken breast in the seasoning and put in your air fryer basket. Cook at 180C for 18-20 mins, turning after 10 mins. To check it is cooked, pierce the chicken with a knife at the thickest part to see if the juices run clear. Or insert a temperature thermometer and it should read 70C.

Can I put raw chicken in the air fryer? ›

You sure can. The first time I did it felt strange because all I'd ever cooked in there was vegetables and pre-cooked foods like chicken nuggets, tater tots, etc. As long as you cook your chicken until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees, it is perfectly safe to put raw chicken in an Air Fryer.

Should I spray oil on chicken in air fryer? ›

Try to ensure the pieces don't touch. Air needs to circulate around them. Spray the chicken pieces lightly with spray oil.

What is the best temperature to cook chicken in an air fryer? ›

After testing a variety of temperatures, I found that 375 degrees F is the best temperature for air frying chicken. Because the air fryer uses convection heat, you do not need to set it as high as you would an oven (in a regular oven, 425 degrees F is best for baking chicken, like Bacon Wrapped Chicken Breast).

Is 30 minutes long enough to cook chicken breast? ›

If you're following a specific recipe, then don't deviate! Otherwise, follow this general formula: Cook large, boneless, skinless chicken breasts for 20 to 30 minutes in a 375-degree-F oven. Cook large, bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts for 35 to 40 minutes in a 375-degree-F oven.

Can you put aluminum foil in an air fryer? ›

Foil is safe to use in an air fryer so long as you follow three basic rules: never let foil touch the heating element; make sure the foil is weighted so it doesn't blow around the basket; and avoid contact with acidic ingredients, which can cause the foil to leach onto your food.

What is the best way to cook chicken breasts to keep them moist? ›

Getting a good sear through medium high heat, then reducing the heat to LOW and COVERING the chicken while it cooks. The butter, oil, and chicken juices create a super flavorful liquid that acts as a way to steam the chicken at a low temperature, ensuring that it is moist & tender on the inside.

How do I make sure my chicken breast is moist? ›

Soak them in a solution of salt and water for about 30 minutes to an hour. This helps the chicken retain moisture during the baking process, resulting in juicier and more tender meat. Marinate the chicken breasts in a flavorful mixture of herbs, spices, and acidic ingredients like yogurt or citrus juice.

Does chicken need to be flipped in Airfryer? ›

Even if your air fryer has top-notch air circulation from its fan, you need to give most larger pieces of food (such as pork chops, burgers, and chicken cutlets) a turn about halfway through cooking.

Do you flip air fried chicken? ›

Cook at 360° for 9 minutes. Then flip the chicken breast over and cook for another 9 minutes. Larger chicken breasts need more cook time, and smaller ones need less time. Open the air fryer immediately so it doesn't continue cooking in the heat.

What oil should you not use in an air fryer? ›

What's more: the "frying" is faster! Caution! Forget about butter or delicate cold-pressed oils, which are very likely to burn and smoke the whole kitchen.

Can I use Pam in air fryer? ›

“Cooking sprays such as Pam, often include soy lecithin, an emulsifier, in the formulation,” says Martin Bucknavage, an expert in food safety in the Penn State Department of Food Science. “This is less stable than high smoke point oils and will deteriorate at temperatures used for air frying.

Why didn t my chicken get crispy in the air fryer? ›

You didn't pat the chicken dry

You'll probably end up with soggy skin rather than the crispy golden crust you were looking for. Before putting chicken into the air fryer — or even seasoning your chicken — you should pat it completely dry with clean paper towels.
