Can too many rum balls get you drunk? You bet they can. Any type of food with alcohol can get you drunk if you consume too many at once. However, unless you make an entire batch for yourself, they will probably be scarfed up by the others before that will happen.

FAQs

Do rum balls get you drunk? ›

Can rum balls make you drunk? This is a no bake recipe, which means any alcohol we use in the process won't be cooked away or made less effective. However, we're not using that much of it, so getting drunk isn't something to worry about! After all, there's only ¼ cup of rum divided among 24 individual bites.

What is a substitute for Nilla wafers in rum balls? ›

While vanilla wafers are my favorite for their subtle sweetness and vanilla notes, graham crackers, butter cookies, digestive biscuits, or shortbread cookies are all excellent substitutes. For a gluten-free version, opt for gluten-free cookies.

What if my rum balls are too dry? ›

If the mixture seems too dry, add an additional small amount of melted butter or more rum. Form small balls about the size of a walnut.

How long can you keep rum balls in the fridge? ›

Store rum balls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Alternatively, freeze them in an airtight container for up to 2 months and allow to come to room temperature before eating.

How many rum balls do you have to eat to get drunk? ›

Can you get drunk off rum balls? That depends on the amount of rum added to the chocolate rum balls and how many you eat. You absolutely can't get drunk off eating these from the recipe, especially if you only eat a few.

Is rum cake OK for kids? ›

Can kids eat a rum cake? Yes. 99.5% of the rum in our cakes is cooked off in the baking and boiling process. Although not all kids love the rum flavour in the cake, they can certainly share a piece for dessert with the family.

What is another name for rum balls? ›

Rum balls are a popular Christmas treat in England, Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, the United States, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Greece and the Czech Republic. In Denmark they are enjoyed year round and known as either romkugle, trøffel or sputnik, depending on the specific region.

Are vanilla wafers being discontinued? ›

The bags on shelves right now are the last of the vanilla wafers. I spoke with a representative for Ferrero Roche, which owns Murray Foods, on Friday and another today to confirm the discontinuation.

What is a flavor substitute for rum? ›

Use small amounts of McCormick Culinary Imitation Rum Extract as an exceptional substitute for rum in recipes; 2 teaspoons of rum extract equals 1 tablespoon of dark rum, or 1 tablespoon of rum extract equals 5 tablespoons of light rum.

Why do my rum balls go flat? ›

Mixture should be very thick. At this stage it may be a little too soft or sticky because of our summer heat; so just pop in the fridge for a bit to prevent totally flat bottomed balls. Then take spoonfuls of the mixture and make your balls by rolling between your palms then roll in coconut.

How do you thicken rum ball mixture? ›

Add more cocoa powder or ground almonds if the mixture needs thickening. Roll and coat: Bakery rum balls tend to be monstrously huge; I prefer to make them bite-sized at home. Roll tablespoon-sized pieces into balls, then roll in chocolate sprinkles to coat.

Can you refreeze rum balls? ›

Alternatively, if you want to save them for a later date, place them in an airtight container and freeze. Do not refreeze after defrosting.

Can rum balls go bad? ›

Ok, maybe not forever. But they will last for quite some time! Much like fruitcake cookies, rum balls taste better when they've had a few days to sit and let the flavor develop. Just pop them into an airtight container and stick them in the fridge for at least 2 days, and up to a couple of weeks.

What happens when rum goes bad? ›

While rum doesn't go bad, it can change in taste and quality over time, so savour it while it's at its best.

Does alcohol evaporate out of rum balls? ›

Yes, alcohol does evaporate out of rum balls over time. While the initial alcohol content is retained, some of it can dissipate gradually during storage, leaving behind the flavor.

Are rum balls alcoholic? ›

Do Rum Balls Contain Alcohol? Yes, these rum balls contain two types of alcohol: bourbon and rum.

Can you get tipsy from rum cake? ›

An average rum cake has around 1/2 cup rum to bake the cake and eating two to three pieces of dry rum cake is too less to get you drunk. However, if you soak the cake in rum after baking and serve it after refrigeration, then eating too much cake can get you a little intoxicated.

Can you get buzzed from bourbon balls? ›

Can I get drunk from eating your bourbon balls? Highly unlikely. The balls are bite-sized, maybe two bite-sized, so you would have to eat a lot of them. You are more likely to experience a sugar high, than a buzz, so we feel it is a safe indulgence.

How fast does rum hit you? ›

How Long Does It Take for Rum to Kick In? Alcohol absorbs rapidly into the bloodstream. You may feel effects as quickly as ten minutes, but rum's peak effects generally come between 30-90 minutes after ingestion. If you're drinking on an empty stomach, expect even quicker results.
